Russell Mann is accustomed to taking the lead. He led a state-wide team of 50 staff when he took on a senior management role within the private banking division of one of the country’s top four banks. Responsible for providing portfolio insights and advice to some of Australia’s wealthiest professionals and corporate power players, Russell was well primed for his current leadership position.

Together with Mark Collins, a former banking colleague, Russell co-created Collins Mann Private Wealth. Once again, he and Mark were leading the charge; pioneering the provision of a contemporary, innovative financial planning consultancy where clients enjoy personalised service, delivered without influence from product providers or any institutional alignment.

These clients are time-poor professionals or senior executives of high net worth, facing a significant degree of financial complexity across both their personal and professional lives. In Russell, they find a confidante with the necessary skills and experience to act as their personal Chief Financial Officer.

From assisting clients to identify and articulate their long-term goals, to charting a course to help them realise those aspirations, Russell is intent on delivering personalised solutions. This approach addresses the entire gambit of a client’s financial wellbeing including but not limited to cash flow management, investment planning and liquidity, establishing and maintaining self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs), appropriate lending arrangements, risk and asset insurance packages, business protections and estate planning.

A skilled technician with the innate ability to translate complex financial matters into language that’s accessible and easily understood, Russell is determined to empower his clients to truly take charge of their financial futures. To this end, he and co-Director Mark Collins, facilitated the creation of a ground-breaking software program, known as MyUltimateGoal. This innovative technology ensures the client remains central to the financial planning process, by allowing them to track their short term progress against their long term goals. This secure portal provides 24/7 remote access to a ‘virtual’ file of their entire financial position. Not surprisingly, “ahead of its time” best describes this online innovation. It’s also an apt description for Russell.

Even back in his university days, Russell was an eager student, hungry to embark on a career in accounting. Hand selected by Peat Marwick (now known as KPMG), Russell combined study and work before transitioning to a fulltime accounting role.

When he joined Westpac in the mid-eighties, Russell’s accounting acumen quickly led to a position in corporate financing for influential players in the mining and manufacturing industries. An interstate promotion followed shortly after, whereby Russell helped coordinate lines of credit for well-known insurers at home and abroad.

Russell’s career trajectory continued, with appointments to the bank’s asset management team and later senior management, culminating in the responsibility of leading the team tasked with creating Westpac’s private banking division in Queensland.

Whilst Russell’s resume is impressive, he is humble about his accomplishments. Perhaps this explains the easy rapport he develops with his clients. A high level thinker with enviable technical dexterity, he somehow manages to humanise the financial planning process in what can otherwise be a very clinical landscape. When asked to share a career highlight, it’s telling that Russell pinpoints a life-changing scenario whereby he helped a client, with no prior financial experience, to grow her financial confidence to such an extent that she purchased a multi-unit investment property in the space of just twelve months. Russell’s joy in his clients’ empowerment is not only palpable, it’s the basis upon which his entire career has been built.

It’s little wonder Russell is so well equipped to help his clients keep their eye on the ball. A golfing enthusiast with a healthy handicap of 8, Russell’s sporting prowess is almost on a par with his professional prowess.

As a teen, Russell was selected for a university tennis scholarship in the U.S. Today, he still knows his way around the court and is in training to become a linesman for the world’s majors.

The proud father of two daughters and a son, this sporting all-rounder believes physical fitness is the vehicle to perform at his peak at work and play.
